I. Structure and Material

1. Material
   • The core is usually made of silicon steel sheets with high magnetic permeability. Silicon steel sheets have the characteristics of low iron loss and high magnetic permeability, which can effectively reduce eddy - current loss and hysteresis loss and improve the efficiency of the transformer.
   • The surface of the silicon steel sheets is generally insulated, such as being coated with insulating paint, to prevent short - circuiting between the sheets and further reduce eddy - current loss.
2. Structural Form
   • The core is generally divided into two structural forms: core - type and shell - type. In the core - type core, the windings surround the core, while in the shell - type core, the core surrounds the windings. Among oil - immersed transformers, the core - type structure is more common.
   • The core consists of core limbs and yokes. The core limbs are the parts where the windings are installed, and the yokes are the parts that connect the core limbs to form a closed magnetic circuit.
